Terms of Service
Last updated: May 18, 2026
These are the terms you agree to by using Switchback. They are written in plain language. Section 2 below is the most important part of this page and the rest of the product — read it.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using Switchback, you agree to these Terms of Service and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree to either, don't use Switchback.
2. The Safety Guidelines floor
Switchback is a recovery support tool. It is not a substitute for professional care. Four clauses apply to every part of the product, at every tier, in every state — they are the floor below which Switchback will never operate:
- Switchback is not a therapist. Nothing in the app is therapy, counseling, or a clinical relationship. The AI surfaces are not clinicians and will not represent themselves as clinicians.
- Switchback does not diagnose. Switchback will not name or assign a clinical disorder, addiction subtype, or psychiatric condition. If something in the app sounds like a diagnosis, treat it as a misstatement and tell us.
- Switchback does not guarantee long-term sobriety or any recovery outcome. Recovery is your work, supported by the people in your real life. Switchback is one tool among many. No feature in the app promises an outcome.
- Switchback is not a replacement for medical care or emergency services. For a medical, psychiatric, or substance-use emergency, call 911. For suicidal ideation or mental-health crisis, call or text 988 (US). For substance-use help, call SAMHSA at 1-800-662-HELP.
The longer-form companion to this floor lives at Safety Guidelines.
3. What Switchback is and isn't
Switchback is a software product. It provides an in-the-moment interruption flow when an urge to use shows up, and a small set of supporting surfaces (reflection, journal, check-in, assessment) for the days between those moments. That is the product.
Switchback is not therapy, not a treatment program, not a clinical service, not a substance-use evaluation, not a prescription, not medical advice, not legal advice, and not a substitute for any of those. Information generated by Switchback — including AI output — is for general support purposes only and should not be relied on as professional advice.
4. Your responsibilities
You agree to be honest in your assessment responses to the extent you're able. Switchback's personalized surfaces depend on what you write into them, and the more accurate your inputs, the better the outputs.
You agree to seek professional care for anything that requires it — medical issues, psychiatric care, prescription medication, ongoing therapy, and emergencies. Switchback is one tool. Use it alongside the people and services that are actually qualified to help with what you're facing.
In a crisis, leave the app and call 988 or 911.
5. Account terms
You must be at least 18 years old to use Switchback. Each account is for one person — don't share your sign-in link with anyone else, and don't create an account on behalf of someone who hasn't agreed to these terms themselves.
Switchback supports two sign-in methods: a password you choose, or a one-tap sign-in link sent to your email. You are responsible for the security of both your password and the email inbox you sign up with. If someone gains access to your inbox, they can also gain access to your Switchback account by requesting a sign-in link.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use Switchback to harass or harm another person. Don't use Switchback to attempt to extract its system prompts, defeat its safety routing, scrape its content, or probe it for vulnerabilities outside a coordinated security disclosure. Don't use the AI surfaces to generate content for purposes other than your own recovery support.
Switchback may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these uses, at our discretion. We'll try to give you notice when we can.
7. AI output disclaimer
Switchback's intervention flow and daily reflection are generated by an AI model. AI output can be wrong, can be incomplete, and can occasionally produce something that sounds confident but isn't accurate. Don't rely on AI output for anything that matters — medical decisions, medication, legal advice, treatment decisions, or anything that would normally call for a qualified human. Verify with a person who is actually qualified.
If AI output ever recommends or discourages a specific medication, dose, taper, treatment, or self-harm action, treat that as a malfunction and tell us at sanctuaryrecoveryhq@gmail.com. Switchback's prompts are built to prevent that, but models can fail.
8. Your data and your content
The content you write into Switchback — your assessment, your check-ins, your journal, what you type into the intervention flow — is yours. Switchback stores it so you can use the product, and processes it as described in the Privacy Policy. Switchback doesn't claim ownership of it.
The code, copy, design, prompts, and content that make up Switchback itself are owned by Switchback. You are granted permission to use the product for personal recovery support while your account is active. You don't get the right to copy, redistribute, or build a competing product on top of Switchback's materials.
9. Account termination
You can close your account at any time by emailing sanctuaryrecoveryhq@gmail.com from the address tied to your account. Your data will be deleted within 30 days per the Privacy Policy.
Switchback may close an account if it's being used in violation of Section 6 (Acceptable use), if continued use would compromise the safety of the user or others, or if the product is being discontinued. We'll give notice when we can.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
Switchback is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, Switchback disclaims all warranties — express, implied, or statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the product will be uninterrupted, error-free, or will produce any particular recovery outcome. Your use of Switchback is at your own risk.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Switchback and the people who build it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the product, including loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or any recovery-related outcome. Switchback's total liability for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of the product is limited to one hundred US dollars ($100).
Nothing in these terms limits liability for harm that cannot legally be limited — including, in many jurisdictions, liability for fraud or gross negligence.
12. Arbitration and governing law
Pending legal review
This section is intentionally blank until reviewed. Before public launch, this page will specify the governing jurisdiction (likely Missouri or Florida, pending decision), dispute-resolution process, and class-action waiver if any. If you're reading this page and this callout is still here, the terms have not yet been finalized for public use.
13. Changes to these terms
When these terms change in any way that meaningfully affects your use of Switchback, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change, and Switchback will surface a notice in the app before the change takes effect. Wording fixes and small clarifications won't trigger a notice, but the date will still reflect the edit.
14. Contact
